UCS1001 MEC Assignment #1: Reflections (in a learning portfolio)

Draft 1 Hi all, my name is Goh Bin Hong, I am a self-motivated and cheerful individual, I always have been keen to up-skill myself by learning new things whenever I get a chance. My personal strengths are I am good at communicating, have leadership skills, am a team player and I am an adaptive person . These traits are just a few examples of the traits that I have. I am currently a university undergraduate, in Singapore Institute of Technology, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to university I was in the military under the 35 th Combat Engineer Battalion, during my time there I was a Platoon Commander and an Officer/Specialist Cadet instructor, my time there was nothing short but fruitful. I was studying in Aeronautical Engineering in Singapore Polytechnic and at the same time was also the captain of the weightlifting team in the school. The Soul of Communication Reaction

Upon reading the article, it has given me a better understanding of how important communication and critical thinking is in the working industry. From the article in 2008 by IDC, it stated that the cost of employee's misunderstanding and poor communication in the United States and United Kingdom was estimated at US$37 billion. From this article, it got me thinking what would the outcome be if there wasn't any miscommunication, the money lost could have been used to improve the companies and the work life  of the workers. I also have learnt that the root of the cause of poor communication is due to poor employee engagement and attrition, the companies fail to effectively train good communication skills to the workers as they didn't touch the core of the communication. From this alone it got me thinking what exactly is the core of communication?
